Gram's Way Tapestry

My tapestry series started with this piece.
The process developed in an instinctual way using cross-stitch. I started with the choice/image of a basic shape or line. Then I would put my hand into the bag of embroidery thread and pull out a colour to make the shape/line. For the next step I threw the burlap or Aida cloth up and where ever the needle pierced the cloth is where I would start the shape. On the fabric with small openings I used two of the six embroidery thread strands. With the larger fabric openings I used the full six strands. I would only use the amount of thread of one arm span at a time, then move on to the next shape/colour. I would have seven shapes/colours going at a time. Thus there was a continued change in landscape with overlapping shapes and lines. At some point I would know that it is done.
